The Reel Poetic

Have you ever wanted to make a film using poetry? Following our own poetic instincts and intuition, together we will investigate the luminous and nebulous boundaries between poetry and film through filmmakers and poets alike, experiment with form on the page and on the screen through three generative prompts, and adapt a poem into a film using video-editing software. Short readings in the form of a downloadable course packet will deepen our study of montage, emotional narrative, and experimental film theory.
 
Over the course of four sessions, you will learn various methods for making work, expand your artistic practice, and bring awareness to your unique creative process. Students will have the option to share one work-in-progress during our final session and receive instructor and peer feedback. No experience with film or video expected.
 
Classes will meet on Tuesdays in January from 6:00-7:15 pm CST.
